Pure Promises for the Oppressed
Last weekend my husband and I had the unique opportunity to attend a conference at the church we attend. Ed Welch (you may know him from Christian Counseling and Education Foundation) spoke on Facing the Darkness with the Lord of Light. What we learned will help us to be better Christ-followers and better people helpers. Here are some key takeaways for me:
1. I must always bring my feelings to the God who IS, and the God who is CLOSE. I must put matters of my heart into SPEECH, then tell God about it. (Psalm 62:8 "Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.")
2. What happens in my relations with others tends to be a mirror for how I relate to God.
3. Pursue authentic conversations with others; make the first move. After all, God pursues me--that is the gospel!
4. When I feel weak and needy, I am JUST the person to help others, because I am depending on Christ to meet the needs both of us (Galatians 2:20).
5. When I hear from God, His words always sound GOOD (Exodus 34:6-7)
6. God is always with me, and He is very, very close (Isaiah 41:3)
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. . .The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. ~from Isaiah 9:2 & 7
