FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Are you a qualified counselor?
A: Yes. I have a Master's degree in Christian Counseling (Queens College of Theology), and I'm also a Board Certified Master Mental Health Coach (specialty in Crisis and Trauma) from American Association of Christian Counselors.
Q: Do you carry a state license?
A: I have chosen not to pursue state licensure because it would limit my use of Biblical and spiritual themes, which I believe are integral to any lasting healing.
Q: Are you a licensed counselor?
A: Licensure is required for counselors who obtain payment for their services, and I believe God wants me to use my training and education to help people at no charge. Though I have the option of obtaining licensure through a Christian organization, I am not licensed at this time.
Q: How long have you been a people-helper?
A: For 25 years I have been a professional music instructor (I'm nationally certified through Music Teachers National Association), working one-on-one with students from all walks of life. Many of my interactive helping skills began in the studio. From 2018-2022 I was on staff at a church, growing into a counseling role. It was during this time that I began my education for working as a pastoral counselor.
Q: What are your areas of specialty?
A: I have specialized training in working with trauma clients, and also gravitate toward those who have experienced abuse, grief, loss, depression, anxiety, and spiritual confusion.
Q: If I have a unique situation, could you still help?
A: I'm happy to walk with anyone who is seeking help; however, if I believe you would be better served by a specialist for your particular situation, it is my delight to help you make a good connection elsewhere.
Q: Are conversations private and confidential?
A: According to the Counseling Ethics Code, all information is kept private and confidential. Exceptions include disclosure of threats of harm to self or others, or abuse of children, elders, or disabled people. (See Code of Ethics HERE.)
Q: How can you afford to help people for free?
A: God has called me to help others while depending on Him to meet my needs. Those who desire to help me help others (both churches and individuals) may share in this ministry. For more on becoming a ministry partner, click HERE.
