How often do you feel beat up? Personal problems, evil in the world, and relational issues take their toll. Honestly, I struggle a lot with “overwhelm”—the heaviness of life in a fallen world bears down hard on my soul. I want better for myself and for people I love, but all around looks like defeat. Don’t get me wrong—I have faith in the sovereignty of God, some great relationships in my life, and confidence of Jesus’ leading. But my daily experience is often a trial in my heart as evil infects the world around me and attacks people I love. I need a bigger, better perspective.
Psalm 91 is one of the most comforting psalms for strugglers like me. Using the word "rescue" a total of three times, it paints a picture of God as protective mother bird giving shelter, safety, and rest to those who come to Him (see also Jesus’ reference to Himself in Matthew 23:37). This psalm promises everything we could ever hope for at a soul level—all the things that matter most are offered in this 16-verse chapter. If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to take a fresh look at this passage so you can see clearly how your life TODAY can be better because of God’s promises to YOU. Read HERE
Take a look at the last two verses, where Jehovah (the almighty God) makes promises to those who love Him, trust in His name, and call on Him:
God calls us out of that battlefield into a place of safety
where we simply watch Him fight the battle for us!
“God, I repent from trying to solve my own problems. The battle is yours, and yours alone. Increase my faith in you, and help me to rest in You and Your promises. Show me what that looks like in my life as you draw me closer to Yourself, and remind me of your eternal presence.”
